Namaskar, India will participate in the 76th edition of the Cannes film festival with the spirit of Vasudaiva Kudumbakam. That Is ‘One Earth One Family One Future’, showcasing our rich Indian Culture under the powerful creative economy. I am extremely happy to lead the Indian delegation to Cannes. The Films from India, rich and diverse in content are traveling all over the world. The success of ‘RRR’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ are the Oscars this year, shows the growing richness of Indian films. Our films and filmmakers are immensely contributing in shaping the media and entertainment sector across the globe. Under the dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is actively pursuing the mission of local to global. Last year India was honored as the 'Country Of Honour’ at the Cannes film festival. We announced Incentive schemes for foreign film shootings in India and for core production of movies. I am happy to announce that, first film shooting Incentive grant to the project “The Inheritance”, an international project from the US, has been cleared recently and more projects are in the pipeline.
The increased ease of doing business has attracted a number of international film projects to India. India now has co-production treaties with 16 countries. Moreover, over 20 countries are at a very advanced stage of negotiations with India for signing of the audio-visual co-production treaty. We are hoping to utilize the platform of the Cannes Festival for interactions with the likeminded film commissions of other countries also. Four Indian Films have made it to the official section in Cannes Film Festival. Apart from this many Indian films are selected for being screened in Marché du Film, that the Indian films being screened in the segment of Cannes underlines the growing influence of Indian Cinema. The Indian pavilion at Cannes will showcase the themes of Indian culture. Its design elements are inspired by the Saraswati Yantra and the colors draw inspiration from the vibrant colors of India’s national flag. The Indian Pavilion will act as a hub for Indian filmmakers. Indian filmmakers to come together and interact with each other and with other global filmmakers. Interactive film sessions will be organized throughout the Indian pavilion, session on showcasing India as the complete filming destination and co-production. Engagement with global film commissions with foster filming in India. It will not only give impetus to the growth of our film sector but also has the potential to enormously boost tourism in the country. Incentives announced last year in Cannes would be pitched to get more filmmakers to India. Other key film markets and festivals of the world will be there engaged with drawing synergies for our own IFFI. We invite filmmakers from around the world to visit the Indian pavilion at Cannes and explore collaborations with Indian filmmakers, its moving stories, richness of Indian art & culture and build synergies for exclusive content creation.
