Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India has designed and implemented an innovative, indigenous, Next Gen Platform ASTR - AI and facial recognition powered Solution for Telecom SIM Subscriber VeRificationwith a vision to analyze, identify and weed out fake/forged, non bonafide mobile connections for curbing the menace of Cyber Crimes.

ASTR has identified more than 50,000 non-bonafide mobile connections issued by Telecom Service Providers (TSP) in the State of Tamilnadu. DoT Tamil Nadu has analyzed all these connections and ensured that all these non-bonafide mobile connections are disconnected by TSPs.  The details of such connections with Point of Sales information have been handed over to Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police and TN police has initiated necessary action on all fraudsters involved in issue of non-bonafide mobile connections.

The steps taken as above will help to prevent the usage of such fake/forged, non-bonafide mobile connections for various illegal activities including Cyber Crimes in Tamilnadu.  The above release issued by M.
