NIT Rourkela conducted a webinar on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Opportunities for New Generation’

NIT Rourkela organized a webinar on ‘AI and opportunities for a new generation’ to spread awareness among school and college students and inspire them to bring future innovations in these fields. The workshop gave the participants a detailed insight into the overview of AI technology by the Guest Speaker, Mr. Manoranjan Pradhan (Adjunct faculty, IIM Bangalore and ISB Hyderabad). Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Bargarh, Kendriya Vidyalaya (Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Bondamunda) and NIT Rourkela participated in this G20 Jan Bhagidari event. 

 

Addressing around 300 students, Mr Pradhan said, “Today, there are various tools of AI which are being used to tackle the problems of society and different sectors of the industry. AI may be challenging to use in remote areas, but it can ease the efforts to complete a task. AI, with its advantages, has a variety of career scopes. Nowadays, ChatGPT is the talk of the hour, but it has its pros and cons. AI-powered tools can help tutors to guide students in gaining smart knowledge and better academic growth, developing their critical thinking skills during their academic journey.” Mr Pradhan further talked about the application of AI in different fields, such as pharma, agriculture, automobiles, education etc. 

 

Prof. Snehashish Chakraverty (Nodal Officer G20 Jan Bhagidari Events, NITR), Prof. Santos Kumar Das, Prof.Supratim Gupta, Prof. Mannath Narayan Sahoo and many faculty and students attended this webinar. The third G20 Education Working Group meeting will be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha with the theme “Future of Work”. The meeting will focus on strengthening international collaboration and discussing a framework for the ‘Future of Work’ with regard to technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Machine learning etc. NIT Rourkela has been allotted the theme of Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning and Big Data Analytics. Ahead of the 3rd EdWG meet, NIT Rourkela is conducting various Jan Bhagidari seminars and webinars on these topics to reach the maximum number of students by facilitating them with the basics of technology to use in a positive and optimum way.

 

Artificial intelligence in education can help in creating engaging tools for kids, such as intelligent tutoring, personalized learning, task automation in education, smart content creation, smooth assistance, universal access to education etc. Teachers and students can take advantage of the technology that can facilitate and raise the quality of learning process. 

 

Later in the evening today, NIT Rourkela also conducted a debate competition on the topic “Can AI/ML help G20 countries address pressing global issues such as climate change, health crises and international security?” Students also learned about the common goals of the G20 countries to use technology for advancement and discussed how they can work in harmony for a better future and achieve India’s goals for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - “The world is one family”.
