FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SERICULTURE IN TAMIL NADU

Will the Minister of TEXTILES be pleased to state :
(a) whether the Government has any plan to grant financial assistance/packages for development of Sericulture farmers in Tamil Nadu particularly in the districts of Trichy, Perambur, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has received any representation/request in this regard, if so, the details thereof;
(c) the funds allocated to the State of Tamil Nadu for Sericulture schemes including Silk Samagra scheme since 2014; and
(d) whether the Government has assessed the scope for development/promotion of Sericulture and its affiliated industries in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Government of India through Central Silk Board is implementing Silk Samagra-2 scheme for the overall development of sericulture industry in the country including sericulture farmers in Tamil Nadu state from the year 2021-22 to 2025-26. Based on the proposals received from Director of Sericulture, Tamil Nadu during 2021-22 & 2022-23, financial assistance (central) of Rs. 41.20 Crore has been provided to Tamil Nadu state under Silk Samagra-2 which includes assistance to sericulture farmers of Trichy, Perambur, Thanjavur, Mayilduthurai districts.
(c): Details of Central assistance allocated/released to Tamil Nadu State under Sericulture schemes of Central Silk Board including Silk Samagra since 2014 are given below:

(d): Yes, Sir. Tamil Nadu is an important traditional state having scope for Mulberry silk production. It stands second in Bivoltine Silk production in India. During 2021-22, the State has produced 2,373 MT of raw silk. Around 25,500 sericulture farmers are spread across various districts of Tamil Nadu state. Important silk reeling clusters of the state are Hosur, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Salem, Dindigul, Denkanikottai, Palacode, Pennagarm and Kancheepuram, Arni, Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Salem, Madurai, Coimbatore.
