A Multimedia Exhibition on the theme of ‘Women Empowerment’ was inaugurated today at the hands of Monideepa Mukherjee, Director General, West Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and Ranjana Dev Sarmah, Additional Director General, Central Bureau of Communication New Delhi.  Shilpa Darekar, Deputy Commissioner, Kolhapur Municipal Corporation and Aparna Sawant, Program Director, Mann Deshi Foundation were also present on the occasion. The Exhibition, inaugurated on the occasion of Women’s Day, is a joint initiative of Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and Kolhapur Municipal Corporation together with Zilla Parishad Kolhapur.

   

   

Speaking on the occasion, Monideepa Mukherjee, Director General, West Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said, “Kolhapur, the city of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, is an ideal place to arrange an exhibition like this.  All the Kolhapurkars’ should visit this exhibition and stalls and also take part in the various interactive workshops organised on its side-lines.” Ms. Mukherjee further thanked the district administration and the guest lecturers who are going to conduct various workshops during this exhibition for their assistance and collaboration in organizing the program.

In the inaugural session, a financial and digital literacy workshop was conducted by Aparna Sawant, Program Director, Mann Deshi Foundation. Mann Deshi Foundation works for economic upliftment of marginalised women. The workshop by Mann Deshi Foundation involved hands on training in basics of savings and banking, experience sharing by women entrepreneurs and visit to their exhibition cum training bus. Audience at the inauguration also witnessed a Shahiri Powada by Shahir Rangrao Patil. The book stall arranged by Publication Division on this occasion, drew a large crowd of bookworms.

The Exhibition will be open to public for five days between 8th March and 12th March 2023 between 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at Rankala Lake Garden opposite Shalini Palace. The Exhibition aims to provide inspiration to viewers by showcasing information on successful Indian women from across fields such as freedom fighters, scientists, entrepreneurs etc.  Various components of the exhibition also give information on government schemes for the welfare of women.  The exhibition is rich in multimedia components featuring experiences like Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Digital Quizzes etc.

   

Apart from the session conducted by Mann Deshi Foundations, the Press Information Bureau Mumbai has organised two more workshops for the benefit of women on the side-line of this exhibition. 

   

Senior lawyer, Dr. Santosh Shah will address a training session tomorrow (9th March) to educate women on legal literacy, especially on basics of inheritance and property laws. This session will be held between at 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the exhibition venue.

On the fourth day of the program (11th March), Eklavya India Foundation, will conduct a workshop for students from class 8 to class 12 on the topic of ‘Higher Education: Opportunities, Institutions and Government Schemes.”  Poonam Dhoble of the Eklavya team will mentor this session from 2 pm to 4 pm.

The exhibition is an endeavour to celebrate the spirit of Women’s Day and provide not only the requisite information but also a direction to women to take steps towards empowerment. Central Bureau of Communication has requested the public at large to visit and benefit from the exhibition.
