The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India, Central Bureau of Communication and Press Information Bureau organised a felicitation ceremony for women of the region working in the field of media and communication. The function was held at at CIHM, Chandigarh today. The event was chaired by Sh Rajinder Chaudhry, Additional Director General PIB, and the Chief Guest was Ms. Aashika Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar.


The felicitation event was organized to recognize the contributions of women journalists in the field of journalism and media. The event was attended by several prominent journalists and media professionals from the region, who lauded the efforts of PIB for organizing such an initiative.
During the event, Sh. Rajinder Chaudhry emphasized the importance of recognizing and encouraging women in the field of media. He applauded the efforts of women journalists in reporting on issues that are often overlooked and underrepresented in the mainstream media.
Ms Aashika Jain, in her address, highlighted the challenges faced by women journalists in the profession and the need for creating a more gender-sensitive work environment in organisations in general and media organisations in particular. She stressed on the importance of providing equal opportunities to women journalists in the field. She also mentioned about certain initiatives being taken by the district administration towards women empowerment like construction of a new working women’s hostel.
Sh. Harshit Narang, Assistant Director, PIB Chandigarh, gave the welcome address and highlighted the role of women in media. He emphasized the need for women to be given equal opportunities and representation in the media. He also requested the present RJs and journalists to consider spreading authentic information about Govt schemes via their respective media.
Smt Sangeeta Joshi, Deputy Director, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, gave a presentation on the various women-centric government schemes. She highlighted how these schemes are empowering women and contributing to their socio-economic development across India. "These schemes are not just about women's empowerment, but they are also about creating a more inclusive society," quipped Sangeeta Joshi.
The event was also marked by the felicitation of several accomplished women journalists from the region, who have made significant contributions to the field of journalism. The felicitation ceremony was followed by an interaction on the field experiences of these towering women.

The vote of thanks was given by Sh Vivek Vaibhav, Director, CBC Chandigarh. The government's efforts towards the empowerment of women were well-received and appreciated by the media.
