3993 Grams of Gold worth 2 crores seized by Chennai Air Customs

Based on intelligence, Chennai Air Customs officers intercepted one Indian male passenger, who arrived from Bangkok by Flight TO 337 on 22.02.2023. During the search of his person, 5 number of gold cut bit of 24K purity weighing 325 grams valued at Rs. 16.31 lakhs found concealed in hand baggage. The same was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

 

In another instance, one male passenger, Indian national who arrived from Bangkok by Flight TO 337 on 22.02.2023 was intercepted. During the search of person, 4 number of gold cut bit of 24K purity weighing 293 grams valued at Rs. 14.70 lakhs found concealed in hand baggage. The same was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962

 

In another instance, one male passenger, Srilankan national who arrived from Colombo by Flight 6El208 on 23.02.2023 was intercepted. During the search of person, 2 packets containing gold in paste form were found concealed in his body. On extraction resulted in recovery of 1 gold ingot of 24K purity weighing 275 grams valued at Rs.13 .80 Lakhs. The same was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

 

In another instance, one male passenger, Srilankan national who arrived from Colombo by Flight 6E 1208 on 23 .02.2023 was intercepted. During the search of person, 4 packets containing gold in paste form were found concealed in his body. On extraction resulted in recovery of 1 gold ingot of 24K purity weighing 545 grams valued at Rs.27.35 Lakhs. The same was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

 

In another instance, one Air India staff was intercepted by AIU officers while crossing the departure area. During the search of his person, 3 bundles and 4 pouches containing gold in paste form were found concealed on his body. On extraction, this resulted in recovery of 1 gold ingot of 24K purity weighing 2555 grams valued at Rs. 1.28 crores. The same was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The person was arrested and further investigation is under progress

 

In total, Gold weighing 3993 grams of 24 K purity valued at Rs. 2 Crores was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
