BIS OFFICIALS SEIZED PACKAGED DRINKING WATER WITH FAKE ISI mark

A team of Officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office-II, Southern Regional Office, Chennai 600 113 conducted an Enforcement Search and Seizure Raid operation on 30-12-2022 atM/s VP Aqua Industries, No. 48/B, Kolapancheri, Pattabiram road, Poonamalle, Chennai - 600072, based on an information from reliable source.

During the operation conducted by a team of Officials constituting Joint Director Shri. Kannan Govindaraj and Deputy Director ShriGowththam B J, in pursuance of Section 28 of BIS Act 2016,the firmwas found to be filling Packaged drinking water in 500 ml PET bottles bearing labels marked with spurious ISI Mark. Stocks of about 12,000nosPET Bottles of different capacities (2 litre, 1 litre, 500ml and 300 ml) filled with Packaged Drinking Water and bearing labels marked with spurious ISI Mark, CM/L-6100009376 with brand 'Fresh Aquaa'were seized during the Search and Seizure operation. Additionally, 4 cartons of labels marked with spurious ISI Mark, meant for PET bottles of 1L, 500 ml & 300ml capacities were also seized. The firm does not hold a valid licence from BIS, thus violating Section 16 and Section 17 of BIS Act 2016.

            Action is being initiated by BIS SRO, CNBO-II, Chennai against the offender under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.  The offence is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine not less than Rs. 2,00,000/- but may extend up to ten times the value of goods or articles produced or sold or offered to be sold or affixed or applied with a Standard Mark or both as per Section 29 of BIS Act, 2016 for first Contravention.
