Pondicherry University, in collaboration with Akhila Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik mahasangh (ABRSM), New Delhi organised a special lecture on “Context of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav: G20 leadership” Pondicherry University. The keynote Speaker and Chief Guest of the programme was G Lakshman, National Joint Organising Secretary, ABRSM, New Delhi. Prof Gurmeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University presided over the function. Prof Gurmeet Singh, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of India in the present world order. He highlighted the importance of leadership by Prime Minister Modi in the G20 and how India has steered the growth story by making itself relevant in the contemporary world order. India’s vaccine diplomacy was appreciated by several countries, and India’s civilisational value was displayed again.
In his keynote address, G Lakshman reiterated the basis and idea of G20 leadership by India. He emphasised that the G20 presidency that began on 1 December 2022 will be driven by the underlying vision of “VasudhaivaKutumbakam”(the world is one family), best encapsulated by the motto “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. The interconnectedness between geopolitics and global economic currents is undeniable, and climate change's global impact is irrefutable which will be the priority of the Indian leadership at G20. He succinctly brought out the position of India as the mother of Democracy and voice of the Global South. India is pushing for reforms in multilateral institutions. India is the land that gave LokaSamasthaSukhinoBhavanthu, Aa no bhadrahkratavoyantuvishwatah-May noble thoughts come to us from everywhere. Bharat is always part of the solution rather than being part of the problem. From Indo-Pacific to Indic Knowledge, everything is full of inclusivity. This perhaps is not found in any part of the world. None of the civilisations has survived with their culture intact, like just a few civilizations, including India. This is entirely because of the idea of inclusivity that India has exhibited for 1000s of years. India is a land that even celebrated the bitter critics of the culture and beliefs like Charvak and has elevated their contributions as philosophies and inherited them. This is the personification of tolerance that India stands for. The G20 is perhaps one of the greatest opportunities for each citizen of India to participate and become part of building a better world sensitive to nature and environmental issues. The greatest threat to humanity in the form of terrorism and environmental security are core pillars India will be targeting to find solutions throughout the G20. The programme had the presence dignitaries of Pondicherry University Dr Tharanikkarasu, Director, Studies, Prof Prathap Shetty, Department of Food Science and Technology, Prof Venkat Rao, Department of Tourism Studies, Prof Subramanyam Raju, Head, UMISARC Centre for South Asian Studies and Dean International Relations. The event was coordinated by Dr Sangmesh of Green Technology and the master of ceremony was Dr Richa Tiwari, Department of Politics and International Studies, Pondicherry University.
