The Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has said that Karnataka has emerged as a major job generator in the country. The Minister said,  the State which accounts for just  five per cent of national population creates 10 per cent of formal jobs, contributing 8.8 per cent to the GDP of the country.

Addressing the Global Investors' Meet  "Invest Karnataka 2022" in Bengaluru today, the Finance Minister said that  Karnataka would be the  essential foundation for investors  in coming years.  Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman lauded  the industry-friendly policy initiatives of Karnataka,  adding that  industries want stability and transparency in policies. 

Referring to uncertainties and crises cropping up in different parts across the globe  as major deterrent to industrial growth, the  Finance Minister assured that industries in India would be carefully navigated through challenges with proper firewalling. 

Earlier, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually  inaugurated the  three-day Global Investor's Meet being held at the Bangalore Palace in Bengaluru. The summit
is aimed at attracting prospective investors and setting up development agenda for the next decade. The  programme will have  more than 80 speaker sessions.  Top industry leaders including Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sajjan Jindal, Vikram Kirloskar are  participating.

The Karnataka Governor Shri Thaawat Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai, Union Ministers Shri Piyush Goyal, Shri Prahlad Joshi, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Karnataka Minister for Large & Medium Scale Industries Dr. Murugesh Nirani and the State   Ministers Shri N. Nagaraj and Dr. C N Ashwath Narayana were among those present.

A number of business exhibitions with more than three hundred exhibitors  and country sessions will run parallelly. The country sessions would be hosted by partner countries  like France, Germany, Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, and Australia. The global scale of the event will give Karnataka an opportunity to showcase its culture to the world. "Build for the World" is the theme of the Meet.
