Under Jal Jeevan Mission, 359 Village Panchayats in Chengalpattu District get water supply through household tap connections: Union Minister Shri. Virendra Kumar

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri. Virendra Kumar today inspected the implementation of social justice projects being implemented at The National Institute For Empowerment Of Persons With Multiple Disabilities at Muttukkad near Kovalam, Chengalpattu District along with the Collector of Chengalpattu District and concerned officials.

 Under the central government's Jal Jeevan scheme (Jal Jeevan Mission, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural areas), 151 village panchayats in Chengalpattu district have been provided with clean drinking water through pipes, he said, adding that this project is to be expanded to 208 more village panchayats. Further the Union Minister said that 445 projects in 142 village panchayats in Chengalpattu district will be implemented under the Jal Jeevan scheme and Rs.64 crore will be spent for this.

He said that under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme, a target of 16,265 houses has been set in Chengalpattu district this year and approval has been given for construction of 11,308 houses. He mentioned that 15 projects are being implemented under The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) which is a nationwide plan in India to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages in the district and Rs.16 crore is being spent for this.

 Union Minister Shri. Virendra Kumar said that in the last 8 years under Prime Minister Modi regime, various schemes and  initiatives have been implemented to provide basic facilities to women in villages and reduce their perils in 8 years.

He said that the Government is taking various initiatives to create a drug-free India. A few weeks ago, in a program held in schools and colleges in various states, one and a half crore students took a pledge not to use drugs, he added. He said that speech competition, awareness program and painting competition were conducted for them.

He asked the authorities to periodically monitor the quality of food items provided in Anganwadis under the Midday Meal scheme. Similarly, he urged the people who are the beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat scheme   to use government hospitals and private hospitals participating in the scheme for kidney transplant and cancer treatment.

While appreciating the activities of the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, the Minister requested to expand its activities to the neighbouring states so that more people can be benefitted.

Chengalpattu District Collector Shri. Rahul Nath, Director of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities Shri. Nachiketa Rawat and officials also attended the program.
