Union Minister Dr L Murugan inaugurated a 10-day photo exhibition on 'History of India's Freedom Struggle' at Palayamkottai


The minister asserted that the dream of the Central Government is to create a society in which the youth are job-givers and not job-seekers

Union Minister of State for Information Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr L Murugan has said that the Union Government's dream is that the youth of the country should become a job-giving society and not a job-seeking society.

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, marking the 75th Independence Day, Press Information Bureau, Chennai zone has organised a photo exhibition on the 'History of India's Freedom Struggle' from today for 10 days at Aruns Mahal near Palayamkottai Bus Stand in Tirunelveli.

The photographs and history of 180  unsung heroes are on display at this exhibition, including Ondiveeran, VOC, Bharathiyar, Veerapandiya Kattabomman and Poolithevan's history.  

 

The exhibition was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Information Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dr L Murugan.

Murugan inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the traditonal kuthu vilakku, following which he visited the exhibition.

 

The minister also launched the regional language broadcast of the the serial 'Swaraj'. It is a mega serial on the lives and contributions of the revolutionaries and leaders of Indian freedom movement with focus on many unsung heroes aired in Doordarshan. 

Murugan also felicitated and appreciated the students who won in various competitions, including painting, conducted as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

 

He also provided financial assistance to the beneficiaries on behalf of leading Bank in order to create employment opportunities. 

 

The minister also released a book titled 'Vellayanne Veliyeru Iyakkam'. A handbook on Bharatiyar songs was also given to the students.

 

Speaking at the event, Murugan said Tirunelveli district was the largest district when it was a unified district.

 

It is a matter of great pride that most of the people who participated in the freedom struggle belonged to this district.

On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, a historical series on 75 freedom fighters will be aired on Doordarshan in 9 regional languages ​​for 75 consecutive weeks.

 

Among the 75 freedom fighters, 3 freedom fighters from Tamilnadu have been included.

 

The series also features the history of Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Velu Nachiyar and Poolitheven.

 

The dream of our former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam should come true in 2047. The everything for everyone scheme should be completed by the 100th Independence Day.

 

For that, the central government's dream is that the youth community should be a job-giving society and not a job-seeking society.

 

In the next 25 years, India will become a developed, superpower. India has excellent human resources. The central government is implementing various schemes for the development of humanity.

 

Murugan further said that various projects including Start Up India and Stand Up India are being implemented.

 

The Minister honoured VOC's granddaughter and  Tirunelveli Corporation's Public Relations Officer Arumugaselvi during the event.

 

MLA Nainar Nagendran, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Director General (SZ), S. Venkateshwar, Central Bureau of Communication and Press Information Office, Chennai, Additional Director General, M.Annadurai, Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner Sivakrishnamurthy, Head of Program, Doordarshan Kendra,  Badshah, Central Bureau of Communication Director J Kamaraj and Dy. Director T. Sivakumar were also present.
