GSI releases District Resource Map’s
DRM’s include details of Geology and Mineral occurrences
GSI Hyderabad celebrates Iconic week celebrations of the Azadi ka AmritMahotsav

The Geological Survey of India (GSI), Southern Region today kick-started the iconic week celebrations of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in its premises at Bandlaguda, Hyderabad. Shri . Janardhan Prasad Additional Director General ( ADG) , GSI participated as the chief guest for the event . He recalled the struggle and scarifies by the freedom fighters of the country on this occasion. As a part of this event students from various schools and colleges visited geological exhibits and laboratories of GSI. Various programmes were conducted for students like talk on achievements of GSI, showcasing activities of GSI, quiz contest on India’s freedom struggle and cultural activities etc. The Ministry of Mines is observing Iconic Week celebration from 11th to 17thJuly 2022.
On this occasion Shri Janardhan Prasad along with officials of GSI released District Resource Map (DRM) related to Telangana, illustrating geology and mineral occurrences of particular district with brief note along with inset maps depicting geomorphology, geohydrology, landuse-landcover, soil cover and geotechnical features. The six district resource maps of Telangana included Hyderabad, Peddapalli, Wanaparthy, Medak, Nagarkurnool and Kamareddy. These maps will not only beneficial for professional and students but also for administrators and planners. All these maps will be available in GSI Portal.

Explaining significant contributions of GSI South Region, Shri Janardhan Prasad said that recent GSI activities included publications on Geology and Mineral Resources of South India and map, Quaternary Geology of Andhra Pradesh and map of Economic Geology of South India with 105 mineral belt maps.
Thematic maps such as District Resource maps of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, along with Geology and Mineral resource state maps of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala are also available in the public domain in GSI portal (https://www.gsi.gov.in) he added.

During the year 2022-23, GSI, Southern Region is implementing 184 projects, mainly field surveys, across all the states encompassing Baseline geoscience data generation, Mineral Exploration, Geo-informatics and Public Good Geosciences.

Activities related to Public Good Geoscience involved geological studies responsible for fluoride contamination, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda districts of Telangana and Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh and Arsenic and Fluoride contamination in the surface/sub-surface water of Raichur district, Karnataka.
