Mumbai, 10^th July 2022

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai conducted an Enforcement Search and Seizure operation on at Bhiwandi, Thane on 08^th July 2022. During the raid at the premises, M/s. Alka Lifestyles Private Limited, (Building A-12, Gala No 5 & 6, Pritesh Complex, Bhiwandi Mankoli Road, Valvillage, Bhiwandi-421302, Thane) was found violating the Quality Control Order S.O. 687(E) dated 13.02.2020. More than 2700 number of Aluminium Foil of Size 12 inch were seized per IS 15392.

The misuse of BIS Standard Mark is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs. 2,00,000 or both as per BIS Act 2016. Action is being initiated to file a case in the court of law for the offence. The team of officials who conducted the search operation include, Scientist-C, Nishikant Singh and Scientist-C Ashish Wakle. The operation was to check the violation of Quality Control Order on “Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Bare Foil for Food Packaging” as per IS 15392.

It has been observed many times that fake ISI marked products are manufactured and sold to consumers for huge profit. Therefore, all are requested to ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before making purchase, by visiting BIS website http://www.bis.gov.in

Citizens are requested that in case they come across any instance of misuse of ISI Mark on any product, the same may be informed to the Head, MUBO-II, Western Regional Office, BIS, 2nd Floor, NTH (WR), Plot no F-10, MIDC, Andheri (E), Mumbai – 400093. Such complaints can also be made by E-mail at the address hmubo2@bis.gov.in. The source of such information will be kept confidential.
