Launches Jan Samarth National Portal for Credit Linked Government schemes - Senior Tax Officials, heads of Banking and Insurance sector join the programme from Mumbai

Prime Ministeri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the iconic week celebrations of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs, commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.  The main function was held at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, while tax officials and industry leaders from 75 places joined the programme virtually.

Amrit Mahotsav Commemorative Coins

The Prime Minister released a special series of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 coins. These special series of coins will have the theme of the logo of AKAM and will also be easily identifiable to visually impaired persons.

Jan Samarth Portal

On this occasion, PM Modi also launched the Jan Samarth Portal, a one-stop digital portal linking Government credit schemes.  The portal ensures end to end coverage of all the linked schemes.  It provides for checking eligibility for various kinds of credit schemes like education loan, agri-infrastructure loan, business activity loan, livelihood loan etc, apply online and obtain digital approval.

The Prime Minister said the country has borne the brunt of government-centric governance in the past. But today 21st century India is moving ahead with the approach of people-centric governance. He said earlier it was the responsibility of the people to go to the government for availing benefit of the schemes. Now emphasis is on taking governance to people and free them from the rigamarole of doing rounds of different ministries and websites.

“Launch of National Portal for Credit Linked Government schemes - Jan Samarth Portal is a major step in this direction. This portal will improve the lives of students, farmers, businessmen, MSME entrepreneurs and will help them in realizing their dreams” the Prime Minister added.

Changing role of tax officials

From Mumbai, the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Smt. Geetha Ravichandran joined the programme online, along with senior officials of Income Tax, CBIC and heads of banks, insurance companies and trade associations.

Speaking to media, Smt Ravichandran, who heads the taxation establishment in Mumbai, which is the largest contributor to the Direct Taxes kitty, said  there has been a major thrust on simplification of procedures.  She said the taxes collected are for the betterment of the country.  Commenting about the changing role of tax personnel, the Principal CIT said “role of taxperson is changing from being an enforcer of law to becoming a facilitator, enabling people to comply by addressing their grievances.”

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Iconic Week

As part of Azadi Ka Amirt Mahotsav Iconic Week of Ministry of Finance a slew of activities have been planned by the offices of Central Board of Direct Taxes,  Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs etc across the country. The Iconic Week celebrations will conclude with a Valedictory function to be held in Goa on June 11, 2022.
