Nehru Science Centre (NSC), Mumbai commenced the screening of science film ‘Journey to Space' at NSC’s Science Odyssey, today. Chief Guest and former Scientist, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Prof. M N Vahia, inaugurated the film screening.

Prof. M N Vahia interacted with students related to topics like astronomical events, black holes, planets and astrophysics.

NSC's 'Science Odyssey' - Fascinating Experience to Watch Films

Nehru Science Centre’s ‘Science Odyssey’ consists of a large format film projection on a 18 meter diameter hemi spherical dome. This facility is one of its kind in the city that provides a fascinating immersive experience to the visitors while watching science films on the full dome screen projected with the help of special projection equipment. Films like ‘Africa : The Serengeti’, ‘Everest’ ‘The Living Sea’, ‘Coral Reef Adventure’, ‘The Greatest Places’ ‘Amazon’, ‘Journey into Amazing Caves’, ‘Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk’,  ‘Adventures in Wild California’, ‘Antarctica- an adventure of different nature’, ‘To Fly’, ‘Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk’, ‘Alaska: Spirit of the wild’ and ‘Dolphin’ were screened earlier and received good response from the visitors.

By using extensive interviews with astronauts Chris Ferguson (Commander of the final shuttle mission) and Serena Aunon (a new astronaut chosen for future flights), Journey To Space gives a sweeping overview of past space accomplishments, current activities and future plans.

Journey To Space puts into historical context the magnificent contributions made by the Space Shuttle program and its intrepid space pioneers.  It uses the most spectacular space footage – including unique views of Earth and operations in space – such as deploying and repairing the Hubble Space Telescope.  It then goes on to show how the Shuttle launched and assembled the International Space Station (ISS).  Together, these programs have taught us how to live, build and conduct science in space.  The ISS will continue operating in space until 2024, and the film shows how it is building a foundation for the next giant leaps into space. The film concludes with a fascinating, realistic scenario of how astronauts will actually get to Mars, live there for long duration, and then return home after a two-and-a-half-year mission.

There will be five shows a day with facility for special shows on request for organised groups.

Nehru Science Centre (NSC), one of the largest science centres in India, has completed more than 25 years of its service to the nation. Due to its innovative programmes, exhibitions and facilities which provide immersive memorable experience in science, the centre has become a hub of science popularisation activities in the western region of the country. Over 7.5 lakh people annually visit the Centre.
