Kolhapur : 11 March 2022

To take the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign launched by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on 22 January 2015 to the masses The Field Outreach Bureau, Kolhapur organized Mini Integrated Communication and Outreach programme on 10th and 11th March in the Satave village of Panhala Taluka in Kolhapur district with joint collaboration of Women and Child Development Department of Zilla Parishad Kolhapur and Gram Panchayat of Satave village.

The decline in the Child Sex Ratio (CSR), is a major indicator of women disempowerment. CSR reflects both, pre-birth discrimination manifested through gender biased sex selection, and post birth discrimination against girls. Social construct discriminating against girls on the one hand, easy availability, affordability and subsequent misuse of diagnostic tools on the other hand, have been critical in increasing Sex Selective Elimination of girls leading to low Child Sex Ratio. Since coordinated and convergent efforts are needed to ensure survival, protection and empowerment of the girl child, Government has announced Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.

While speaking on this occasion, District Programme Officer, Smt Shilpa Patil expressed concern over declining Sex ratio in comparatively well off Talukas like Karveer and Panhala. Dr Swati Nikam a practicing Physician also addressed the gathering.

Dr. Ahilya Kanase, Medical Officer in Primary Health Centre, Borpaadle of Panhala Taluka cautioned the villagers about rising incidence of 3 Ds i.e. Depression, Dementia and Diabetes and also asked the students to be vigilant and vocal about child sexual abuse.

Sarpanch of Satave Shri Amar Dabhade was also present on this occasion.

A rangoli competition was arranged on 10th March among girl students of Satave Highschool, Satave and Anganwadi Sevikas on the theme of Save the Girl child.

Morning procession was undertaken by students of Satave High school, Anganwadi Sevikas and villagers to create awareness about Beti Bachao Abhiyaan on this occasion. It was followed by cooking competition for women in the village.

Povada (An insipirational  and educational folk song performed by folk artists) on the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was presented on this occasion by Shaahiri Povaada Kalaa Manch.

Dignitaries from the village gave away the awards for winners in Rangoli and cooking competition. Smt. Shobha Nikam was Chief Guest on this occasion.
