International Women’s Day was celebrated by NABARD, Goa RO, Panaji by felicitating 12 women achievers of the State. The function was organized in Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji on 08 March 2022. The chief guest for the function was Ms. Vandana Rao, IAS, Managing Director of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Government of Goa. Besides the awardees, the programme was attended by other bankers, a few programme implementing agencies and SHG women members.

Shri V V Deshpande, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Goa RO welcomed participants to the programme and gave a brief profile of the Chief Guest.

Ms. Usha Ramesh, Chief General Manager / Officer in Charge, NABARD, Goa RO shared her practical experiences, particularly as a woman, in NABARD and her journey in the institution. She highlighted the role NABARD has played over the years in women emancipation, gender equality and particularly its pioneering role in the SHG Bank Linkage Programme. She emphasized how women are making a difference in the society and are highly bankable. She complimented the awardees for contributing to the society in their own way.

Ms. Vandana Rao, IAS handed over the awards to selected women achievers who were from varied fields ranging from agriculture, education, graphic designing, banking, baking and patisserie, FMCG entrepreneurs to SHG promotion. Following the felicitation programme, each of the awardees spoke about their amazing journey in life, their aspirations and struggles and grit in overcoming whatever has come in their path to success.

In her keynote address, Ms. Rao spoke how hard it is to be an entrepreneur that too with the added burden of being a woman. She spoke how financial independence should be the foremost goal for each woman and how they should overcome gender biases in society. She appreciated the role NABARD is playing and complemented NABARD for formally recognizing the women achievers of Goa.

The programme was compered by Ms. Maya V. Deshpande, Assistant General Manager. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Rahul Jelugadekar, Assistant Manager.
