The COVID 19 pandemic has taught human society to ‘Come Together’ and ‘Collaborate’ at unprecedented levels. The Collective Spirit showcased by the ‘Community-based efforts’ has led to tremendous results. This is a testimony to the tremendous potential India beholds in terms of human resource, skills, natural resources and entrepreneurial abilities, stated Prof. (Dr.) Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur today, in his welcome address for a two-day National Conference cum Industry Meet on Foundry 4.0 which started today at Durgapur. The inaugural session of this National Conference cum Industry Meet was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Dibyendu Maiti, CEO, MiG Complex, HAL, Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT-Manipur, Dr. Naga Hanumaiah, Director, CMTI-Bangalore, Prof. Partha Pratim Chattopadhyay, Director, NIFFT, Ranchi in presence of Prof. Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI.

Shri Dibyendu Maiti, CEO, MiG Complex, HAL, while delivering his Chief Guest address shared his views on ‘Vision 2030 for Aerospace and Defence’. He narrated the focal objectives of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in the domain of Civil and Defence Aviation. Shri Maiti also briefly showcased the achievements of Aeronautical Development Agency, DRDO, NAL and HAL. The new Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP 2020) and the accelerated involvement of the private sector, which includes Mahindra Aerospace, Godrej Aerospace and Dynamatics Technologies Limited were briefly discussed. The development of indigenous technologies has led to substantial reduction of cost when compared to similar imports. This has also spurred the interest of major private players across the globe. Shri Maiti also shared that a robust supply chain will further fortify the defence and civil aerospace capabilities of the nation. CSIR institutions such as CSIR-NAL and CSIR-CMERI are already playing an active role in the aerospace sector and there is tremendous potential for fruitful collaborative ventures in the future with them, he added.
Prof. (Dr.) Hirani said, the spirit of ‘AtmaNirbharta’ or ‘Self-Dependence’ is the source of ignition for insurmountable progress of the nation. The culture of self-dependence not only helps in improving the material conditions of the society we exist in, but brings out the untapped potential also in oneself. We should not view India’s diverse demographic as a population problem but rather should try and carve out creative channels to harness this demographic potential. Each and every interaction that we engage in our professional lives should be analysed and assessed upon a ‘Value-Based Matrix’. This will make our efforts evolve and improve with the passage of time. These will be the foundations upon which a ‘Progressive India’ will be built upon. India is steadily moving towards a ‘Knowledge-Economy’ with a subtle thrust towards services dominated framework.
Prof. (Dr.) Hirani also stated that the youths, the influencers of the future, are required to be equipped with the appropriate skills and knowledge to prepare them to be the ‘Workforce for India’s Growth Engine’. CSIRCMERI in recent years have trained and skilled thousands of youths in the latest advancements in technology and R&D. The Institute has also opened up its Facilities to the aspiring Entrepreneurs for utilization of the same, as they are not always able to afford the Capital Intensive Equipments. CSIR-CMERI has recently added equipment like the Wire Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM), Multi Material Deposition System, Water Soluble Ceramic Core among others, onto its Infrastructure. Majority of the product innovations are influenced and shaped by the user-end feedback and inputs, quipped the CSIR-CMERI Director. According to him, we should also adapt and evolve our teaching methodology for the youngsters of today. All we need to do is establish linkages amongst the ‘Pockets of Potential’ across the nation, and evolve our teaching methodology for the youngsters of today. All we need to do is establish linkages amongst the ‘Pockets of Potential’ across the nation, he added.
