Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the union Agriculture ministry under the leadership of Hon’ble prime minister Shri Narendra Modi has given highest priority to agriculture and allied activities. The concept of Swayampurna Goa initiated by the Govt of Goa is a role model and will go a long way in making not only Goa but also the nation Atma Nirbhar. Even though tourism took a backseat during the pandemic, the agriculture sector in Goa steamed ahead, riding on the policies set by former Chief minister late Shri Manohar Parrikar.

Even during the pandemic, agriculture stood the test of time and our farmers pulled off bumper harvests. The contribution of Agriculture in the nation's GDP is significant, hence its all the more imperative to strengthen the agriculture sector. To increase the productivity, and to infuse technology to small scale farmers, union govt under the leadership of Narendra Modi has launched the Central Sector Scheme of “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations(FPOs)” to form and promote 10,000 new FPOs till 2027-28 with a total budgetary outlay of Rs.6865 Cr. Minister expressed his happiness that this scheme is successfully being implemented in the state of goa and said he is confident that this scheme will be revolutionary for the small scale farmers.  To achieve the Prime minister’s dream of doubling farmers’ income by 2022, Central govt, State govt and farmers of the country are working in unison.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi was launched by prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi  with a view to augment the income of the farmers by providing income support to all landholding farmers’ families across the country, to enable them to take care of expenses related to agriculture and allied activities as well as domestic needs. Under the Scheme an amount of Rs.6000/- per year is transferred in three 4-monthly installments of Rs.2000/- directly into the bank accounts of the farmers. As on January 1st 2022, more than Rs 20,000 crore were transferred to beneficiaries amounting to ten crore nine lakh farmer families.

In order to make the nation self-dependent on edible oil, the union govt has started the national mission on Edible oils - Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) as a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme. In this mission a financial outlay of Rs.11,040 crores out of which Rs. 8,844 crores is the share of the Government of India.

Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant asserted that the Government’s aim is to reach to the last person of the society and the State administration is working in that direction. Advanced technology and new techniques in the sector are attracting youths towards agriculture in the State. He urged people to take up integrated farming in the form of agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, pisciculture and floriculture together.

Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Shri Vinay Tendulkar; Chairperson, Quepem Municipal Council, Smt Suchita Shirwaikar and others were present on the occasion.
