Nashik now has a CGHS Wellness Centre, to benefit more than 1.6 lakh citizens

Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar inaugurated a Central Government Health Scheme Wellness Centre in Nashik, Maharashtra today. The Wellness Centre will benefit more than 1.6 lakh citizens, including about 71,000 serving and retired central government employees in the city. Earlier, Central government employees had to go to Mumbai or Pune to get treatment at the Wellness Centre there.

Inaugurating the Wellness Centre, Union Minister said that the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us that health services in the country need to be strengthened. She informed that working in this direction, the Central Government is planning to open 22 new AIIMS hospitals across the country. She added that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is making all efforts to start 1.5 lakh wellness centres across the country under Ayushman Bharat.

The Wellness Centre in Nashik is the first of 16 new CGHS centres being set up across the country, in the government’s endeavour to expand the coverage and improve the accessibility of CGHS services. Nashik is the fourth city in Maharashtra after Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, with a CGHS Wellness Centre. The centre is located amidst government offices and residences and is well-connected by road and railway networks as well.

The Wellness Centre in Nashik will provide Out Patient Treatment including issue of medicines; referrals for indoor treatment at Government and empanelled hospitals, investigations at Government and Empanelled centres; family welfare, maternity and child health services; cashless facility for treatment in empanelled centres for pensioners and other identified beneficiaries; reimbursement of expenses for emergency treatment availed in Govt. / private hospitals and for purchase of hearing aids, artificial limbs and other such appliances.

Central Government Health Scheme was started in 1954 with the objective of providing comprehensive medical care to the Central Government employees and their dependent family members. Currently, more than 38.5 lakh beneficiaries in 74 cities across India are covered by CGHS.

CGHS caters to the healthcare needs of eligible beneficiaries covering all four pillars of the democratic set-up in India, namely the Legislature, Judiciary, Executive and the media. CGHS is the model healthcare facility provider for Central Government employees & Pensioners and is unique due to the large volume of people it serves and the open-ended and generous approach of providing health care.
