Governor inaugurates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations at NBBD College Tadong

It is our responsibility to preserve the sanctity of our hard-earned Independence and should not forget the sacrifices of freedom fighters & martyrs, said Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad. Addressing the inaugural session of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav exhibition-cum-cultural programmes at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College here today Shri Prasad cajoled the students and youths to make a commitment of their daily life to work hard towards betterment of the society, the nation and the safeguard of our Independence.

Speaking at this event, Smt Siphora G Targain, Secretary, State Department of Information & Public Relations, highlighted the aims and objectives of the ongoing year-long celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, throughout India and Sikkim. To commemorate the monumental occasion, the achievement and activities of the government will also be highlighted, she said and urged to use this occasion to pay tribute to unsung heroes of the freedom movement. Smt Targain said, all should collectively support the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 beginning   today.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Shri D Purohit, Principal of the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College, Tadong, appealed all to contribute in making India Atmanirbhar as envisaged by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. 

Shri Ajay Mhamia, Director, PIB welcomed the Governor and thanked the State administration, specially the top administrators of the IPR Department for their ready support in organizing the two day event in Sikkim at a very short notice. Shri Arijit Chakroborty, Deputy Director, ROB Guwahati, who is leading a large team consisting of ROB Officials and Song-and-Drama artiste to execute this programme, also addressed the opening session, informing about similar ROB initiatives in the NE Region.

The Governor also inaugurated a two-day pictorial exhibition of our national freedom fighters and unsung heroes from the hinterlands. The artiste from Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati mesmerized the audience with their colorful cultural performance based on a variety of cultural background mainly from northeastern States.

The concluding ceremony, to be held tomorrow as the Gandhi Jayanti event, will be graced by the State Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Department of Agriculture, Department of Information & Public Relations etc., Shri Lok Nath Shamra. The Principal of NBBD College informed that students of the institute will undertake a cleanliness drive at 10.30 in the morning to mark the ongoing programme.
