Iconic Week celebrations by NFDC


Cinematographer Alphonse Roy to address a session on Camera Complementing the Content

National Film Development Corporation is organizing a session on Camera Complementing the Content by Cinematographer Shri. Alphonse Roy, tomorrow (August 25, 2021) at 10:00 a.m. This is being organized as part of  the Iconic Week 2021 celebrations organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

NFDC organized a free online session for the pre-registered skill development students in Tamil Nadu on the topic ‘Technology on the edit table… then and now' by Shri. Akkineni Sreekar Prasad, Film Editor, on 23rd August.Around 120 students from various parts of the state attended the online session.Shri. Sreekar Prasad spoke about the evolution of technology, the processes and creative elements in editing and its impact on effective story telling. Students interacted with him through digital medium and gained knowledgeof the various techniques and ideas that were shared during the session.

www.cinemasofindia.com, NFDC’sOTT platform is also streaming award winning films for free during this week on the theme of Modern India and Technological advancements in Filmmaking.

Speaking about the Iconic Week 2021 celebrations,Smt. Dhanpreet Kaur, Director, Films, (Ministry of I & B) and Managing Director, NFDC, said, “It is indeed a pleasure to organize the online film skillsessions alongside streaming of films on NFDC’s OTT platform,cinemas of Indiaduring the Iconic Week celebrations on the occasion of 75 years of Independence’s AzadiKaAmrit. Skill development is a priority and we want the youth to be updated with the global trends and techniques.”

Iconic Week 2021,  held between 23rd and 29th August 2021, is part of the Government of India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative.

According to Shri.D. Ramakrishnan, GM,NFDC, “This will be a great occasion for the students to learn various skills through our sessions on Film Editing & Cinematography from the acclaimed and awarded speakers.”

“The platform is becoming the go-to-platform for various film festivals; it is our pleasure to facilitate the Iconic Week with NFDC’s diverse content on the platform. This will empower and mentor new generation of filmmakers by enhancing cinema literacy”, said Ms. Deepti Chawla, Head- Distribution, Syndication  and Marketing.

About the Speakers:

Shri. Akkineni Sreekar Prasad–

Shri. Akkineni Sreekar Prasad is an Indian film editor. He works predominantly in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi language films. He is a recipient of eight National Film Awards, five Kerala State Film Awards, two Nandi Awards, and two Filmfare Awards among others. He was included in the Limca Book of Records as People of the Year - 2013 for wide contribution to the Indian cinema in several languages.  Shri. Prasad also holds the record for "films edited in most number of languages" in Limca Book of Records. So far, he has edited films from 17 different languages.

Shri. Alphonse Roy –

Shri. Alphonse Roy is an Indian Cinematographer. He is primarily awildlife cinematographer. He has contributed to many wildlife documentaries including Treasure Seekers: Tibet's Hidden Kingdom, Kingdom of Cobra, Temple Tower, Elephant Mountain and Tiger by Night.  In the year 2008, he received award for his debut feature film, Aamir. He has worked in many movies like Raid, MaiGhat,Aamir, Gulaabi Gang, and Mumbai Cutting.

Cinemas of India:

The NFDC’s OTT platform www.cinemasofindia.com will stream specially curated 7 films based on the theme of modern India and technological advancement in filmmaking. The bouquet of films include – Island City, Bioscope, Crossing Bridges, Bangarwadi, Vees MhanjeVees, Miss Beatty’s Children and EkGhar
