Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurates Design Resource Centre at Kanchipuram

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Textiles, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution Shri Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Textiles Smt Darshana Vikram Jardosh jointly inaugurated several events on the 7th National Handloom National Day on 7 August 2021 virtually, including Design Resource Centre at Kanchipuram, Building of Weavers Centre at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh and the Virtual Buyer Seller Meet and the Craft Villages at Kerala, Assam and Srinagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal said the steps will be taken to increase production of Handloom Sector from the present level of Rs 60,000 crore to over Rs 1,25,000 crore. Also, the export of Handloom items is to be increased from the existing of Rs 2500 crore to Rs 10000 crore in the next three years.

The Minister also said that in the 75th year of Independence, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has urged all of us as a nation to buy Indian handloom products and showcase their grandeur by associating with #MyHandloomMyPride.

The Minister urged the people to buy atleast one handloom item in order to promote the weavers and handloom sector.

This function was organised by Ministry of Textiles under the guidance of Shri Upendra Prasad Singh, IAS, Secretary Textiles and Shri Sanjay Rastogi, IAS, The Development Commissioner of Textiles.

An handloom exhibition "Celebrating MyHandloomMyPride" was organised at Moti Bagh, New Delhi, as part of National Handloom Day events.
