The accreditation process changed the evaluation outlook from an open-loop system to a closed-loop system of the Teaching-Learning Process : Prof Lakshminarayanan Samavedham, NUS, Singapore

The inaugural function of the one week workshop on
“Quality assurance in Technical and Higher Educational Institutions
and interpretation of Requirements of NBA Accreditation” was held on
19th July 2021. The chief guests of the program were
Dr.Lakshminarayanan Samavedham from National University of Singapore,
Singapore and Dr.T.Thyagarajan, Dean of MIT campus, Anna University.

The Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Coordinator,
Dr.P.Kalaichelvi welcomed the gathering and briefed on the
achievements of the Department since its inception. She also mentioned
that even during lockdown the Department has worked hard to keep
teaching, learning and research alive. Dr.N.Sivakumaran, the Institute Coordinator of the AICTE-MARGDARSHAN scheme mentioned on the steps taken to bridge the gap between quality improvements of affiliated colleges through innovative programs.

Dr.Arunagiri, faculty of Department of Chemical Engineering and
Coordinator of the workshop briefed about the objectives of the
workshop as well as the nature of participants as well as
institutions. He also updated the schedule of the workshop with
respect to the topics of presentations as well as about the resource
persons.

Dr.Ramakalyan Ayyagari, Dean (Academic) of NIT Tiruchirappalli
emphasised the importance of quality related to higher education. He
also mentioned that scaling up requires documentation, policy
executed, periodic auditing and good records and the workshop will set
itself as a perfect platform for the young faculty and also after
attending this workshop, the participants will be able to disseminate
the knowledge gained in this workshop to their colleagues and other
Institutes.

Dr.Thyagarajan, Dean, MIT campus was the guest of honour and insisted
that outstanding institutions like NITT has set a standard towards the
requirements of NBA. He quoted Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s mentioning of
three connectivities, such as physical, electronic and knowledge and
appreciated the coordinators and the Institute for initiating this
workshop. Quality assurance is all about ABCD, A for auditing, B for
bench marking, C for checklist and D for documentation and are the
four essential parts, he mentioned.


The Chief Guest Dr.Lakshminarayanan Samavedham, NUS, Singapore spoke
on the preparation for Accreditation as a faculty, program coordinator
and academic leader. He appreciated the Accreditation process as it
changed the evaluation outlook from an open-loop system to a
closed-loop system of the Teaching-Learning Process. He shared his
experience on how the accreditation assessment helped him as a teacher
as well as an administrator and how it helped in understanding the
abilities a student is required to possess.
