The Nagpur Circle, Archaeological Survey of India in association with South Central Zone Cultural Center, Nagpur, is going to celebrate the 7th International Day of Yoga tomorrow (21st June 2021) at Old High court building, Nagpur. The aim of celebrating the Yoga Day in a monumental premise is to create awareness among the people of our rich cultural heritage. The Old High Court building forms part of an important administrative and judicial complex during the British rule and was constructed between 1891 and 1893 AD when Sir P. MacDonnell, (Companion of the Star of India,C.S.I.), was the Commissioner. The Old High Court Building, which was declared a Centrally Protected Monument in 2018. It exhibits an excellent example of the colonial Anglo-Indian architecture interspersed with elements of vernacular architecture. 

The performance of yoga will start at 07:00 AM tomorrow. The event will be graced by the participation of Union Minister of Road, transport & Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Nitin Gadkari and MLA of Nagpur (West) constituency, Shri. Vikas Thakare. On the occasion of Yoga Day, South Central Zone Cultural Center will also organise a performance of Mallakhamba and Dandpatta which are traditional sports of Maharashtra. 

Looking into the COVID-19 guidelines of the Government, only limited staff and members of the South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur and the Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur will participate in the programme.

In keeping with the theme of International Day of Yoga -2021, which is “Yoga for well- being”, the programme aims to develop the feeling of physical, mental, social and intellectual wellbeing, and to spread the message of cultural awareness among public. Psycho-social care has a significant role to play in yoga during the time of the pandemic. 
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the Union Ministry of Culture, is the central Government agency for the archaeological researches and protection of the cultural heritage in India. Nagpur Circle was established in the year 2013, after bifurcation from Aurangabad Circle. There are 94 Centrally Protected Monuments and sites of different periods which are scattered in 11 districts of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra i.e. Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal. ASI- Nagpur circle has been responsible for conservation and preservation of many of the centrally protected temples, forts, mosques, caves, tombs, and other important archaeological sites in these districts.  

The South Central Zone Cultural Center, Nagpur, is one of the seven Zonal Cultural Centres in India. It was established in 1986 with its headquarters at Nagpur to preserve and promote traditional cultural heritage of India. It comprises of linguistically different states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh & Telangana.
