An enforcement raid was carried out at Gopal Charan Industrial Estate and Swagat Industrial Estate, near Bakrol Gam by the team of officers of Bureau of Indian Standards, at  four units manufacturing electric cables on 07 Jan 2021,  based on input that the unit indulged in manufacturing  of ISI Marked Electric Cable without having valid license from BIS.  During the operation,  large scale of  misuse of BIS Standard mark (ISI) was found and  more than  1,50,000 meters of electric cables  with different brand names having fake BIS mark  were seized as evidence.  The name, address, brand name used and quantity of cables seized  is given below:

The said product is under mandatory certification notified by Government of India which implies that no person shall manufacture the product without having license from BIS to use the BIS standard mark (ISI). Action is being initiated against the offender for using BIS standard mark without prior permission of BIS, under violation of section 17 of BIS act 2016. The offence is punishable by imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 2 years or with fine which shall not be less than Rs.2,00,000/- or both.

 Unscrupulous manufacturers use BIS standard mark (ISI mark) without valid license to deceive the public in general. BIS, Ahmedabad has been carrying out series of  raids (search and seizure operations), as and when information about misuse of Standard Mark is received/collected, to protect the consumer from such deception and possible safety hazards which emanate from usage of such substandard material.Anybody who has information about the misuse of Standard Mark may write to the Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, Ahmedabad Branch office, 3^rdFloor, Navajivan Amrut Jayanti Bhavan, Behind Gujarat Vidyapith, Off.
