In order to further ease the movement of containers to Chennai Port Trust, Chennai Port had detailed discussions with CONCOR & terminals and it was decided to encourage rail movement of export containers from ChPT’s extended gate at Tondaiarpet to the Port.
Accordingly, M/S. CONCOR will run daily shuttle service from their facility at Tondiarpet to Chennai Port. CONCOR has assured that they will ensure delivery of the containers received at their yard within 12 hours to Chennai Port. Facilities for the generation of the Shipping Bill, Seal verification of containers, issuance of other necessary documents like Form 13/EIR also can be completed at Tondaiarpet extended gate. CONCOR Yard at Tondiarpet ICD has a capacity to handle around 10,000 containers.
The two terminals situated inside Chennai Port viz. CCTPL and CITPL will issue necessary documents (Form 13/EIR) to all the containers received at extended gate in Tondiarpet and will facilitate vessel connectivity in time.
Trade is advised to make use of this facility and drop the export containers at the extended gate facility at Tondaiarpet for onward movement to the Port by rail, according to a press release issued by the Chairman of Chennai Port Trust.
