Birla Industrial Technological Museum (BITM) under Union Ministry of Culture’s National Council of Science Museums reopened with the gala inauguration of a 20 ft Giant Magic Tap installed at the museum’s lawn on November 10, 2020, the day which coincides with both World Science Day and International Science Centre & Science Museum Day. COVID-19 pandemic led to closure of all the museums including BITM. This museum had been closed to the public since March 15, 2020. In line with the Ministry of Culture’s mandate to reopen all museums, art galleries and exhibitions, BITM reopened on November 10, 2020 with strict compliance to the Ministry’s SOP for containing the spread of the pandemic, with the following preventive measures:
> Online Ticketing facility
>Compulsory temperature-screening of all visitors upon entry
>Mandatory use of face covers/masks at all times
>Foot-operated hand-sanitizer dispensing facility
>Provision for disposable gloves
>Sanitization of all Museum facilities on regular basis
>Touch-free exhibit operation in galleries
>Social-distancing compliant floor and seat markings
>Touch-free water taps in restrooms
>Periodical public announcements for maintaining precautionary measures
The Giant 20 ft Magic Tap was inaugurated by the Director of BITM Sri V.S. Ramachandran. This is a floating tap fountain, hovering above a pool, with endless supply of water gushing out of it, seemingly from nowhere. The visitors have to answer logically that where is the water coming from ?
