CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur observed the Vigilance Awareness Week 2020 from October 27, 2020 to today as per the CVC guidelines. The concluding ceremony of the weeklong celebrations was organised today November on a virtual platform.

In the virtual platform, the Director of the organisation, Prof. (Dr.) Harish Hirani in his address stated, “The Rules and Regulations Framework as adopted by the Government of India has a specific objective of delivering pertinent and time-bound services to the society, which will empower our nation to scale new heights, as has been envisaged in the Constitution. Thus, being Public Servants we should always strive to achieve the Constitutional ideals through our incessant efforts. CSIR-CMERI can help bridge the gap between Government and Society through Science & Technology. Vigilance does not exclusively cover the domain of financial impropriety. The scientific community should be vigilant towards understanding the most pressing societal issues and seek solutions for the same through affordable technology innovations. The Sustainable Waste Management, Water Purification, Mob Control Vehicle, plethora of Anti-COVID 19 Technologies and the Solar Trees are ideal testimonies of how Technology Efforts can help influence the lives of millions of vulnerable sections of the society across the Nation.”

Dr. Hirani further stated the significance of embracing the Internet-of-Things and Information Communication Technologies through e-governance, and systemic changes in procedures, minimal discretion, reduced public interface, technology based procurement and automation. Media, he said, can go a long way in raising the awareness levels of the public, thereby creating an informed society, which is empowered enough to imbibe the spirits of integrity and vigilance. According to the director, ignorance is the breeding ground for Corruption and is massively detrimental for societal progress. He added that the stagnation in the trajectory of any nation’s growth is highly dependent on the stagnation of knowledge dissemination and knowledge sharing is one of the key parameters for comprehensive national growth. To keep the stagnation at bay, he said, the limited public resources should be channelized in a manner to ensure that the same makes the maximum possible impact for the societal benefit. Every specialist functionary has their own limited domains of functioning and thus they should try to imbibe the spirit of unbiased and selfless service, with the sole focus towards fulfilment of the institutional objectives, he added.

CSIR-CMERI has undertaken several administrative measures to curb corruption and promote transparency like decentralisation of decision making, periodic rotation in sensitive posts, robust Grievance Redressal Mechanism and Proper Succession Planning.
