World Post Day & National Postal Week

World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9th October, to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Berne. It was declared as World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969 and since then, it is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of the postal services. The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness about the role of the postal sector in the lives of people and business and its contribution to the social and economic development of the country. During Covid-19, the Post Office has played a major role in delivering the essential services all over the world.

India Post celebrates National Postal Week from 9th to 15th October every year. The celebration is aimed at generating a broad awareness about India Post’s role and activities among the public and media at national level.

As part of National Postal Week, Department celebrates Savings Bank day, Mails Day, Philately Day, Business Development Day and Postal Life Insurance Day to focus on various services provided.

Various activities are planned at Divisional / State and All India level during this National Postal Weekon the respective days viz., (i) felicitating the valued customers / oldest (ii) Organizing camps / workshops for Philately, (iii) opening POSB / IPPB Accounts, (iv) Aadhaar seeding, (v) PLI/RPLI proposals, (vi) Organizing Post Forum meetings, (vii) online awareness Campaigns to create awareness about the new offerings and availability of Citizen centric services at Post Offices (AePS, POPSK, Aadhaar Enrolment / Updation facility, PRS, etc.), (viii) Display of Posters and publicity through Press and Media, etc.All these activities are being organized keeping in view the National directives issued for the Covid-19 management.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic season, India Post has played an outstanding role in offering seamless essential services to the members of public. In this endeavor, many of our staff have got infected with the virusand a few have also lost their lives in this fight.In spite of this, the following achievementsmade during the lockdown period (i.e., from 25th Mar, 2020 till date)in Chennai City Region stands as a testimony for theirunyielding services.

    • Post Offices have ensured seamless Banking services to all the customers especially in the rural areas who are deprived on online banking facilities and opened around 1.45 lakh India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) accounts.

 

    • Our delivery staff have done 2.81 lakh Aadhaar enabled Payment System (AePS) transactions and disbursed about Rs. 48.47 crore at their doorsteps even in containment zones.

 

    • Post Offices have ensured hassle-free pick-up / delivery of all Parcels containing essential items / medicines / medicine kits, etc., at the doorsteps of the customers.

 

On the occasion of World Post Day, we at India Post affirm our commitment to contribute in the nation building in a big way with the motto ‘DakSeva – Jan Seva’.
