Third Edition of Khelo India Youth Games inaugurated in Guwahati, Assam in a grand ceremony

The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games was inaugurated in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union MoS (I/c) for Youth Affairs & Sports and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju and several ministers of Assam government today at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Sarusajai Complex, Guwahati. The third edition of Khelo India games are the biggest games held so far with about 6500 participating athletes across 20 sporting events. The inaugural ceremony was marked by a grand show of light and technology which showcased the cultural heritage of Assam. Several cultural performances were also presented to describe the value of sports in our life through the government’s initiatives of Khelo India.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju thanked the Assam government for organizing the biggest Khelo India games yet in the most grand manner. He also urged everyone to imbibe the ideals of Kheloge to Khiloge as envisaged by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi while urging every child to concentrate on sports alongside studies.

Assam Chief Minister Shri Sonowal thanked the Prime Minister for having reposed faith in the youth of Assam. He appreciated the welcoming nature of Assam which believes in the ideals of Athithi Devo Bhava. He also welcomed all players participating in the games and urged them to do their best.

Earlier, the torch relay was passed by several renowned athletes including Elvis Ali Hazarika, Jamuna Boro, Dipa Karmakar, Hima Das among others as a symbolic gesture to kick start the Games. The games will conclude on January 22, 2020.
