Labour Bureau, an attached office of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, however, conducts Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) to assess change in employment by enterprises in the selected eight sectors of the economy employing more than 10 workers. The sectors are Manufacturing, Construction, Trade, Transport, Education, Health, Accommodation & Restaurants and IT/BPO.

The fifth report of Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) has been released by Labour Bureau on 29^th December, 2017. As per this report, there is an overall increase in employment of 1.85 lakhs workers including 59,000 women, during the quarter January- March, 2017. There were positive changes across all eight sectors; the maximum increase of 1.02 lakh (55 per cent) was recorded in the manufacturing Sector.

This information was given by Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
