Scheme for Adolescent Girls expanded to 508 districts

The Scheme for Adolescent Girls sanctioned in the year 2010 is implemented in selected districts (205) of each State/UT across the country. Government has approved expansion and universalisation of the Scheme for Adolescent Girls in a phased manner i.e. in additional 303 districts in 2017-18 and the remaining districts in 2018-19. Thus, from the current year, 508 districts in the country are covered under Scheme for Adolescent Girls. Number of districts covered under Scheme for Adolescent Girls given below:

Continuation and expansion of the Scheme for Adolescent Girls has been approved by the Government for out of school girls in the age group of 11-14 years, hence, at present there is no vocational training component under the scheme. Before this, the vocational training to girls of age 16 years and above was provided under the scheme. The details of the number of girls benefitted therefrom State wise during 2016-17 is given below:

To enhance the coverage and improve the functioning of the said scheme, the Government is reviewing the performance of the Scheme at regular intervals on a quarterly/annual basis to identify gaps for taking corrective measures. Monitoring committees are set up at all levels (National, State, District, Block and Village level) to take stock of the progress of the scheme as also strengthen the coordination and convergence between concerned departments.
