As per the latest Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), 2014-15, Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the total number of registered food processing units (factories) is estimated at 38,603.

Based on the Annual Survey of Industries for the years from 2004-05 to 2014-15 conducted by the Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the estimated employment generated in registered food processing units (factories) is given at Annexure. Further, as per the 67^th round survey of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation on ‘Unincorporated Non-agricultural Enterprises (Excluding Construction)’ conducted in 2010-11, the estimated number of persons engaged in unincorporated enterprises in the manufacture of food products and beverages is 47.92 lakhs.
