Welfare Scheme of Muslim Community

“Pursuant to the submission of Sachar Committee Report and launching of the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme (PM’s New 15-PP) for the welfare of minorities, with a view to enhance opportunities for education; ensure an equitable share for minorities in economic activities and employment through existing and new schemes; enhanced credit support for self-employment and recruitment to State and Central Government jobs, the Government has undertaken various schemes / initiatives for the welfare of six notified minority communities, namely, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi. These schemes / initiatives are being implemented by various Ministries / Departments of the Central Government, including Ministry of Minority Affairs, either exclusively or by earmarking of 15% of overall physical / financial targets (under the scheme) for their welfare.

Details of the allocation and expenditure, as available under the schemes / programmes / initiatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and those covered under the PM’s New 15-PP as well as follow-up action on Sachar Committee’s report, are available on the website of Ministry of Minority Affairs at “www.minorityaffairs.gov.in”. The Budget allocation for 2016-17 was Rs. 3,827.25 crore, which was enhanced to Rs. 4,195.48 crore in 2017-18. However, details of per capita allocation and expenditure on minorities are not maintained”.

This information was given by Union Minister for Minority Affairs Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
