Construction of tunnels has been prioritized to provide all weather connectivity in the Border States. Tunnel at Rohtang pass in Himachal Pradesh and at Theng in Sikkim are under construction.

The likely benefits are given below:-

• Provide all weather connectivity which will help in the socio-economic development of these regions.
• Reduce the travel time.

The following steps have been taken to ensure timely completion of these projects:-

• Geological investigations is carried out during DPR preparation.
• Enhanced delegation of powers has been made to BRO for outsourcing of consultancy services including DPR preparation.
• In order to get acquaintance with the latest technology used by various developed countries for tunnel construction, officers of BRO are given training.
