Decongesting Cities

The Government has put a special focus on over-congested capital cities, especially with regard to the North-Eastern States. National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is implementing National Highways projects pertaining to North East Region (NER) which connects capital cities in NER. The list of such projects is as follows :.

As a part of the component ‘Expressways’ under Bharatmala Pariyojana, about 1,900 kms of stretches of national and economic corridors that have traffic exceeding 50,000 Passenger Carrying Units (PCUs) and have developed several choke points have been identified for development of greenfield Expressways. Around 800 kms are being taken up under this category in Phase-I of BMP. List of Expressways identified under BMP is as follows :

The Ministry is implementing a scheme namely, ‘Strengthening of Public Transport System’ to improve public transport system. The Scheme helps in reducing dependence on private vehicles. This scheme provides for financial assistance to states for strengthening of public transport system. The assistance to States is for introduction of information technology solutions in public transport system.
