Surveillance activities for Hepatitis C

Under the National Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Programme, the National Centre for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare undertakes surveillance activities for Viral Hepatitis in the country. Details of outbreaks reported under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme during the period 2014-2017(up to 2nd July, 2017) in the States including Haryana are given below.
The State-wise cases & deaths due to Viral Hepatitis (all causes) reported in India during 2014-2017(up to April/ May, 2017) are given below:

Health being a state subject, it is primarily the responsibility of States/UTs to ensure the availability of essential drugs including Hepatitis-C drugs in the States/UTs. Under the National Health Mission (NHM), financial and technical support is provided to the States/UTs for strengthening their healthcare delivery system including support for provision of essential drugs free of cost to those who access public health facilities under the NHM Free Drugs Service Initiative. All the States/UTs have reported that they have notified free drug policy in their respective States/UTs. A National Steering Committee on Viral Hepatitis has also been formed for prevention, care and treatment of viral Hepatitis.
The Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Smt Anupriya Patel stated this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha here today.
