Ferry Fleets and Ghats under Inland Water Transport of India

 Eighteen ferry terminals are to be constructed in six cities of Varanasi, Patna, Munger, Bhagalpur, Kolkata and Haldia on the National Waterways-I under the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) . The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has engaged a reputed consultant for preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the purpose.   The consultants have been tasked to identify suitable locations for construction of the ferry terminals.

IWAI has already constructed eight permanent terminals on NW-3 viz., Kottapuram, Aluva, Maradu, Vaikkom, Thanneermukkom, Trikkunna-puzha, Kayamkulam and Kollam.  In addition, there are two nos. terminals viz., Bolghatty & Willingdon island has also been developed in Cochin Port Trust limit for container traffic through (Roll-on Roll-off) Ro-Ro /Low-on Low-off (Lo-Lo) service.

 

This information was given by Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways and Chemical & Fertilizers Shri Mansukh L. Mandaviya in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
