Textiles India 2017

The Ministry of Textiles has organized a 3-day mega textile exhibition namely, Textiles India 2017, from 30th June, 2017 to 2nd July, 2017 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.  The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 30th June, 2017. The principal objective of organizing the mega event was to bring all segments of the textiles sector under one umbrella trade event and showcase the strength of the Indian Textiles sector to the world. The event witnessed participation of buyers from 105 countries, international delegates and representatives and artisans and weavers.  The event provided an excellent platform for B2B interactions and explored investment and technological tie-ups across various segments in the textiles value chain. 65 MoUs between different organizations, including foreign governments and companies and Indian entities were signed during the event.  The event witnessed three country sessions, seven state sessions, six conferences chaired by Union Ministers, one conference of ASEAN countries, 26 round table conferences, and fashion shows were held.  Besides this, national and international exhibitors showcased their products.  

 

Government has taken the following initiatives to make India a global sourcing hub:

·                     Announcement of a special Textile Package for garments and made-ups sector

·                     MEIS Scheme under new Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020

·                     Restoring Interest rate subvention for pre and post shipment credit for the textile sector

·                     Increased Duty Drawback rates for some textile articles

·                     Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme

·                     Market Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme

·                     Duty-free import of trimmings, embellishments and other specified item under Export Performance Certificate Entitlement Scheme

 

The above information was given by the Minister of State, Textiles, Shri Ajay Tamta today, in a written reply to a Rajya Sabha question.
