Performance of MSME Sector

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a pivotal role in the overall industrial development of the country. The MSMEs are widely dispersed across all sectors of the economy starting from agro based cottage industries to high tech precision engineering segment. Furthermore, the share of MSME manufacturing (Gross Value of output) in total manufacturing output is to the tune of 33.29% (in 2015-16) and MSME contribution in the country’s GDP is to the tune of 30.74% (in 2014-15).  MSMEs also contribute 45% of the total exports from the country.

The Government had set up a One Man Committee to give recommendations on the overall policy of the MSME Sector. The committee has since submitted its Report which has a separate chapter on marketing issues.

The Government is committed to empower the MSME Sector. Towards this end various Schemes and programmes are being implemented which include Prime Minister’s Employment Generation programme (PMEGP), Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme, Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS), National Manufacturing Competitiveness programme (NMCP), Marketing Assistance Scheme and  MSE-Cluster Development progarmme etc. These  schemes and programmes aim at augmenting the credit delivery, infrastructure, marketing and technology for MSMEs.
