More than two lakh beneficiaries covered under Maternity Benefit Programme during 2016-17 till date

Maternity Benefit Programme is a centrally sponsored scheme, under which the maternity benefits of Rs.6,000/- per beneficiary is provided to Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM). As per the existing norms maternity benefit is provided to PW&LM who are of 19 years of age and above, for first two live births. As reported by State Governments/Union Territory Administrations, 2,07,720 beneficiaries were covered under the Maternity Benefit Programme during 2016-17, as on date. The existing conditionalities and installments are as under:

·   Registration of Pregnancy at Anganwadi Centres / Health Centres preferably within fourth months of pregnancy

·   At least two Ante-Natal Check-up (ANC) with Iron Folic Acid (IFA) tablets and Tetanus Toxoid (TT)

Second instalment

(6 months after delivery)

·   The birth of the child is registered.

·   The child has received Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG), Diphtheria Pertusis Tetanus (DPT) I, II & III and three Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) doses 

·   Attended at least 3 growth monitoring and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling sessions within 3 months of delivery.

·   Exclusive breastfeeding for six months and introduction of complimentary feeding as certified by the mother.

The Government has announced pan-India implementation of the programme for which revised and simplified guidelines are being drafted.
