The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad, is organising a five-day press tour to Kolkata and the Sundarban region from September 21 to 25, 2026. This marks the first time that Kolkata is hosting a PIB press tour from any State, with a media delegation from Telangana visiting West Bengal to gain first-hand exposure to a wide range of initiatives in defence, scientific research, environmental conservation, infrastructure and culture.

 

The five-day visit will take journalists from Telangana to key institutions and project sites, offering them an opportunity to interact with officials, scientists and other stakeholders and understand various development and conservation initiatives at the field level.

 

The tour will commence on September 21 with visits to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Fort William – Eastern Command, followed by an interaction at PIB Kolkata.

On September 22 and 23, the delegation will travel to the Sundarban, where journalists will cover initiatives relating to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The programme will include exposure to mangrove conservation and management, the Coral Reefs Scheme, MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes), eco-restoration initiatives under the Green India Mission, and conservation efforts for the Royal Bengal Tiger under Project Tiger.

 

The Kolkata leg of the tour on September 24 will include visits to the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) – Indian Institute of Ceramics, Tea Board and the Underwater Metro. On September 25, the delegation will visit the National Library and Science City, besides an interaction with the Governor of West Bengal.

The press tour brings together diverse themes covering India’s maritime and defence capabilities, scientific research, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, urban infrastructure and cultural institutions. The programme has been structured to provide media representatives with direct field-level exposure and opportunities for interaction with institutions and experts working across these sectors.

Through the visit, journalists from Telangana will gain a broader understanding of the initiatives being undertaken in West Bengal and the Sundarban region. The interactions and field visits will also enable the media delegation to document developments on the ground and share these initiatives with audiences in Telangana and beyond.

 

The five-day tour reflects PIB’s continued efforts to facilitate first-hand media exposure to important development initiatives and government institutions, enabling journalists to engage directly with stakeholders and bring comprehensive, field-based perspectives to the public.
