Dr. Nirmal Kumar Soren has taken charge as Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Sub National Unit (West) under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. 

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Soren is a 1991 Batch I.R.S (Custom & Indirect Tax) Officer and has worked in various field formations of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs in Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, Meerut and Mumbai. Prior to taking over the charge as DG, DGGI, SNU(W), Mumbai, Dr.  Nirmal Kumar Soren was Principal Commissioner of Mumbai Central CGST Commissionerate.

Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), is an apex intelligence organization functioning under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, entrusted with the task of collection, collation and dissemination of intelligence relating to evasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and duties of Central Excise and Service Tax on an all India basis.

DGGI, SNU (West) holds administrative control over the Western Region, encompassing the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. As these states are the highest revenue-generating regions, the role of the Director General, DGGI SNU (West), is crucial in monitoring and addressing revenue leakages. Additionally, this role is vital in enhancing compliance with Indirect Tax Laws. The total GST liability detected by DGGI, SNU(West) was Rs. 1,06,346 Crore in FY 2023-24.
