The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, celebrated the 78th Independence Day with fervor and dedication at its Central Office in Vile Parle, Mumbai.
The day began with a flag hoisting ceremony presided over by KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar. Following the flag hoisting, a vibrant 'Tiranga Yatra' was organized, which saw participation from KVIC officers, employees, and local residents. This yatra was conducted under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, emphasizing the spirit of national unity and pride.
During his address at the flag hoisting ceremony, Shri Manoj Kumar extended heartfelt Independence Day greetings to all KVIC officers, employees, Khadi workers, spinners, weavers, and entrepreneurs across the nation. He emphasized that the Khadi tricolor represents more than just fabric; it is a symbol of the sacrifice, struggle, and dreams of countless freedom fighters who contributed to India's liberation from British rule.
Shri Kumar highlighted the transformative impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past decade. He noted that Khadi's legacy has been elevated to new heights, with the turnover of Khadi and Village Industries surpassing ₹1.55 lakh crores for the first time in Independent India’s history. The sector has experienced a fivefold increase in sales, a fourfold increase in production, and the creation of 10.17 lakh new jobs.
In a notable event, Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar inaugurated the recently renovated 'Mahatma Hall' within the KVIC premises. This hall symbolizes the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Khadi, reflecting the commission’s commitment to preserving and promoting this historical fabric.
The Independence Day celebrations featured a cultural program with patriotic performances by artists and KVIC employees. The event also included the release of the second edition of the Rajbhasha Visheshank by Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar. Additionally, winners of the annual sports competition were felicitated during the program. In addition to the flag hoisting and cultural activities, a prize distribution program was organized to honor outstanding contributions within the KVIC community.
