Gunvati Jagan Nath Kapoor Foundation, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel, hosted, “Bone and Soft Tissue Survivors Meet 2024” at Choksi Auditorium in Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday 31st of July 2024. The participants included 150 survivors, patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders coming together to celebrate Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Awareness Month 2024.

The aim was to raise awareness about sarcomas, bone cancer and their early detection, to recognize and honour those individuals dealing with bone cancers, as well as provide a platform for survivors to share their victorious journey.

Speaking on the occasion, Nirjari Dalal, Executive Director of Gunvati Jagan Nath Kapoor Foundation, said “The foundation has been working very closely in cancer care and the Bone and Soft Tissue Department since the last decade. Over the years, we have provided psycho-social support and closely followed more than 11,000 bone and soft tissue patients. Individual guidance and/or support sessions has been instrumental in many of these sarcoma patients overcoming feelings of stigma, body shaming, concerns about education, finances and anxiety about their future. This year, the meet was arranged for the first time to provide a platform to raise awareness of this rare cancer of the bone and soft tissues, while additionally highlighting the importance of psychosocial support during and after treatment for patients and survivors to improve their quality of life and to make them understand that they are not alone in this journey.”

The event also showcased talent of 12 survivors.

The Tata Memorial Hospital appreciated the Foundation’s initiative to hold such an event for the very first time in the hospital. Prof. Ajay Puri (Head of Surgical Oncology at TMH) congratulated Gunvati Jagan Nath Kapoor Foundation for its work and stressed on the importance of holistic care for sarcoma patients. In addition to medical care it is important to provide emotional and social support to patients and their families while giving them confidence that they are not alone in this journey, he said. Tata Memorial Hospital practices such integrated care with both, its in-house staff and multiple social organisations working together in the best interests of the patient.
