BIS enforcement team finds misuse of ISI mark on packaged drinking water

A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Mumbai Office conducted an enforcement search and seizure operation on Wednesday (December 8, 2021) to check the misuse of ISI Mark on packaged drinking water (PDW).
During the raid at M/s. Mannan Industries at Koperkhairne in Navi Mumbai, it was observed that the firm has misused the ISI mark without valid licence at their premises. The team of BIS officers Shri Arjun.T, Scientist-C & Shri Ashish Wakle, Scientist-C observed that while filling of PDW of 20 litre pet jars, they were filling it with , the jars were being filled with CM/L – 7700155316(brand-OXYRAYS) and CM/L – 7700007612(brand-ActOplus) instead of packaged drinking water marked with BIS Standard mark , i.e, Mark as per IS 14543. This way the firm has misused the BIS mark. Clear evidence of violation of Section 17 of BIS Act-2016 has been found. Sufficient numbers of 20 Litre Pet jars were seized during the raid.
The misuse of BIS Standard Mark is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs. 2,00,000 or both as per BIS Act 2016. Action is being initiated to file a case in the court of law for the offence in this case.
Shri Sanjay Vij, Scientist-E and Head of BIS Mumbai Office-II stated in a press release, it has been observed many times that fake ISI marked products are manufactured and sold to consumers for huge profit. Therefore, it is requested to ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before making purchase, by visiting BIS website http://www.bis.gov.in or by using BIS CARE Mobile Application.
