Per Capita Expenditure
The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri Srikant Kumar Jena has said that as per the provisional results of 68th round of NSSO Surveys on Household Consumer Expenditure, average Monthly per capita expenditure in rural and urban areas at all India level are Rs.1281.45 and Rs. 2401.68 respectively.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today he said, the Government has introduced a number of schemes targeted at rural and urban poor with a view to improve their level of living. Schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) are in operation in rural areas. Similarly, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) has been launched on 3rd December 2005 in urban areas for taking up housing and infrastructure facilities for the urban poor in selected 65 cities under Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) . For remaining cities/town, the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (INSDP) is under operation.
