Progress of PMGSY
Upto December, 2010 more than 54% of the eligible habitations have been provided connectivity under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY) .This information was given by Union Minister of State for Rural Development Shri Pradeep Jain “Aditya” in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today. The house was also informed that under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), initially it was targeted to provide all-weather connectivity to eligible unconnected habitations with the population of 1000 persons and above by the year 2003 and the habitations with a population of 500 and above by the year 2007. In respect of Hill States, Desert areas (as identified in Desert Development Program) and Tribal (Schedule-V) areas, the objective was to connect habitations with the population of 250 persons and above. However, the targets have to be revised owing to following reasons:-

(i) The targets set on the basis of the report of National Rural Road Development Council (NRRDC) had to be revised to higher side based on ground verification carried out for preparation of District Rural Road Plan (DRRP) and Core Network.
(ii) Inadequate implementation capacity of the States.
(iii) Unfavourable weather conditions i.e. a very long rainy season/floods.
(iv) Delay in getting forest clearance/acquisition of land.
